International Marketing

International Marketing develops and implements global product strategies and defines product objectives. These are tailored to local culture and standards by country management, according to the motto “Think globally, act locally”. International marketing consists of two Strategic Marketing Units, one for the product areas Psychiatry and Cardiology, the other for Gastroenterology and Hormone Replacement Therapies. Solvay Pharmaceuticals International Marketing & Licensing is located in Basel, Switzerland.

Operations

– USA
In recent years Operations USA has been growing very fast among others by the acquisition and launch of new products and by expansion of the sales force. Solvay Pharmaceuticals Inc (based near Atlanta in Georgia) is expected to speed up its market penetration in the US even more in the near future.

– Europe and International
Operations Europe and International is divided into six regions each managed by a Regional Manager. Region I is Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Region II is France, Belgium and Africa. Region III is Spain, Portugal and Italy. Region IV is United Kingdom, Ireland and The Netherlands. Region V is Central and Eastern Europe, the Nordic countries, Greece and Latin America. Region VI is Asia, the Middle East, South Africa, and Canada. Operations Europe and International are managed from Hanover, Germany.

– Japan
Operations Japan is growing fast. Solvay Pharmaceuticals has established a fully owned subsidiary named Solvay Seiyaku. It has also set up a joint venture with Meiji Seika. Now that our antidepressant LUVOX® has been launched in Japan, more growth is expected.

Manufacturing

Solvay Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing supplies Solvay subsidiaries worldwide and distributors or license-holders. It provides finished products, products in bulk for packaging and distribution, or active ingredients for formulation, packaging and distribution. Solvay Pharmaceuticals is currently creating “centers of excellence” in manufacturing in order to increase efficiency and reduce costs. Manufacturing sites are coordinated centrally, for optimal cross-utilization of resources and expertise.

Manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients is concentrated in Solvay Pharmaceuticals plants in The Netherlands, Germany, France, Canada, and Belgium. Plants for Lactulose, Pancreatin, Baldrian, Dydrogesteron, and Peptides are dedicated to one product. Other products are manufactured in multi-product plants. Our formulation and packaging sites are based in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, the USA and Japan.

Research and Development

Solvay Pharmaceuticals has one global R&D. Global research centers are concentrated in Germany for cardiology and gastroenterology, and The Netherlands for psychiatry. Product development centers are found in Germany, The Netherlands, the US and Japan. Additional local clinical development sites ensure that the dossiers are adapted to local regulatory requirements and patient needs, while at the same time following one and the same global approach.
