UNEP and the driving roles of companies

As the UNEP(2) emphasizes, the move towards more sustainable development is often linked to innovatory, voluntary responses on the part of industry. Drawing on their experience, companies contribute to the development of practical solutions to the problems encountered in the fields of health, safety and the environment. Moreover, “Agenda 21” clearly shows the driving role companies have to play in managing their activities responsibly through voluntary initiatives such as charters, conventions and codes of good practice.
