HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPIES

DUPHASTON® (dydrogesterone)
Solvay Pharmaceuticals’ DUPHASTON® is one of the leading progestogens in Europe and market leader in a number of other countries. DUPHASTON® (dydrogesterone) is very similar to women’s natural progesterone. Due to its high selectivity and activity it has less side effects than all other progestogens including progesterone. DUPHASTON® is useful in a wide range of gynecological conditions caused by progesterone deficiency, such as endometriosis, premenstrual syndrome, and irregular or absent menstruation. As progesterone deficiency may also prevent a fertilized egg from implanting properly in the uterus wall, DUPHASTON® is also used by women struggling with infertility and habitual abortion. In the past years, a large number of studies proved the efficacy of DUPHASTON® in the protection of the endometrium of postmenopausal women on estrogen replacement therapy.

description of indications
Progesterone deficiency
DUPHASTON® (dydrogesterone) is prescribed for women with progesterone deficiency. Progesterone is a hormone that a woman’s body produces after ovulation. It helps to form a lining in the uterus to allow a fertilized egg to implant in the uterus. If no implantation occurs, the production of progesterone is stopped and the uterus lining breaks down into menstruation. If the body does not make enough progesterone, this may lead to difficult and painful menstruation (dysmenorrhea), irregular bleeding (metrorrhagia), lack of bleeding (amenorrhea), heavy bleeding (menorrhagia) or premenstrual syndrome. Duphaston can also be used to treat patients with endometriosis. Endometriosis occurs when endometrial tissue, the tissue that lines the uterus and is shed during menstruation, grows outside of the uterus (on fallopian tubes, ovaries or anywhere else in the pelvic cavity). Because these areas build up and bleed during the menstrual cycle just as the uterus lining does, scar tissue is formed around them. This may lead to chronic pelvic pain, or even infertility.
